The deadline date OSHA’s Request for information on the management of hazardous chemical exposures in the work place and strategies for updating Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) is April 8, 2015!
On October 9, 2014, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced a request for information regarding chemical management and PELs in the workplace.
The purpose of this dialogue is to gain information, insight and ideas into the development and evolution of managing chemical exposures in the workplace.
Many of the OSHA PELs were adopted by OSHA in 1971 and are well over forty years old. In 1989, OSHA tried to update many outdated PELs for 212 chemicals and added an additional 164 PELs. However, the 1989 updates were vacated by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The docket will remain open for 180 days for submittal of information and comments, with the deadline being April 8, 2015.
